Symposia Proposal Guidelines
Your proposal for a PHYS Symposium should include the following components:
- Title
- Organizer(s) and full contact information for each
- Draft Symposium description
- List of tentative speakers
- If known, anticipated number of ½ day sessions (with a “full” symposium running 9 sessions or 4.5 days).
The PHYS Executive Committee (EC) will be looking at diversity representation and a good mix of junior/senior scientists – AND a balance of invited and contributed talks. If you are considering a named symposium (i.e., “In Honor of…”), check with us first since PHYS limits the number of such symposia to one every meeting. In general, symposia are approved 1-2 years in advance of a meeting, so it’s best to send your proposal to acs-phys@colostate.edu so we can share it with the appropriate program chair. If you are thinking of supporting the theme of a national meeting (or have a locational preference), you can find the list of upcoming ACS meetings and their topical themes HERE.
One final caveat: Please do not extent invitations to your list of proposed speakers until the EC has approved your proposal, after which the Program Chair will give you the green light to do so.
